NEZPERCE — Even after outscoring their opponents 98-0 through their first two games of the season, Troy head coach Rob Bafus still said his team had something to prove.

“I thought we needed to work on our ground game,” said the second-year head coach.  “To play with Genesee, Prairie (and the other teams at the top of the league), we’re going to have to be able to run the ball.”

It seems the boys passed with flying colors.  Senior running back Marshall Williams carried the rock a season-high 22 times, enroute to 221 yards rushing and five touchdowns, upping his season total to 15 in just three games.

“He had to work a little bit tonight,” said the exuberant coach.

Junior Kaden Hoskins added another 63 yards on 11 carries, as the line provide plenty of holes to for their runningbacks to roam free.

“I wanted to see what we could do and I challenged our offensive line.  We only threw the ball probably five times tonight,” added Bafus.  “They did a great job.”

The only thing that may have been more impress than that was the defense.  Troy remains the only team in the Whitepine League yet to allow a point this season, as they posted their third straight shutout.

“Our defense is just nails.  Our defensive coordinator has done an excellent job,” Bafus commented about assistant coach Guy Wells.  “He took last year off.  We couldn’t play defense last year.  He was born to coach.”

When asked what he would’ve said in the preseason if told him his team wouldn’t allow a single point over the first three games of the season: “I’ll take that and head to Vegas.  It speaks volumes to what Wells has done.”
